Worth it with kids
- Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium — sharks, manatees, and a sea turtle rehab wing; genuinely engaging for most ages.
- Siesta Key Beach — the shallow, gentle slope into the water and soft sand make it one of the easier family beaches on the Gulf Coast.
- The Ringling's grounds and circus museum — the art museum itself is a harder sell for younger kids, but the circus museum and the banyan-lined grounds hold attention well.
- Turtle Beach for shell hunting — fewer crowds means more room for kids to spread out.
Skip, or save for later
- Marie Selby Botanical Gardens — lovely, but a quiet contemplative garden isn't built for young kids' energy levels.
- St. Armands Circle shopping — fine for a short stop, not a full activity block with young kids.
- Sunset sailing cruises with toddlers — better suited to older kids who can sit still for two hours.
Practical notes
Book condo rentals over hotel rooms if you're a family of four or more — kitchens matter more with kids than the resort amenities do. Siesta Key Village restaurants get loud and crowded by evening; earlier dinners are easier with younger kids.
